The Story of Jacob and Joseph

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Leg-puller struggles with God; son sold into slavery in Egypt
This film begins in Genesis, when Rebecca gives birth to Jacob and Esau. It ends with Jacob going to Egypt to see his lost son Joseph. As the other reviewers have indicated, this is a “bare-bones” account of the lives of Jacob and his son Joseph. For example, it is written, Laban pursues Jacob after the latter leaves for Canaan, but not in this film. But what the film does portray, it does rather faithfully. Now, not everything in the film is straight from scripture. However if you’re not a “purist” that will not be a problem. (I myself don’t mind so long as scripture is not contradicted.)

Hence, this film is much in the style and flavor of the film “Jesus” which I love. In fact, it looks like the two films were made in the same location in parts. For example, the desert backdrop where Jacob is reunited with his brother Esau looks much like the scenery where Jesus was tempted by Satan for 40 days in the “Jesus” film.

The acting is in this film is very good. I thought that the portrayals of Jacob and Joseph were convincing. Esau also. Although I thought Rachel was a little silly.

I was surprised when the two brothers were reunited that Esau still wanted to kill Jacob. I always got the impression in scripture that Esau already forgave Jacob. But I suppose it’s possible he held a grudge.

I especially enjoyed the second half of the movie, which was about Joseph, who was sold by his brothers into Egypt. This Joseph I liked much better than what I’ve seen in other films. This Joseph is upright, great work ethic, a man after God’s own heart. Exactly the way scripture says. The only disappointment was, I thought the film ended too soon. I would have liked to have seen the reunion of Jacob and Joseph.

Contrary to what one other reviewer has written, I thought the Egyptian props and scenery was quite good. I’ve been to the Egyptian museum so I have some idea of what it should look like. One peculiarity however was the caravan scene by the pyramids. The way the pyramids look now, is not how they looked then.

Since buying this film a month ago, I’ve watched it 3 or 4 times. I plan to watch it again. I can’t say that about many other films.

2 Stars Not what I expected for a film. Love the Bible Series but this was different
Jacob and Joseph. This is a film and not in the Bible series. WAnted it to be closer to the story of the Bible.

4 Stars An impressive retelling of the Stories of Jacob and Joseph!
This lavish Biblical drama of 1974 has been produced in two parts. The First part tells the story of Jacob fleeing his tribe when he cheats his brother out of his birthright, gets cheated himself in his exile years while learning of the need to make amends. The second part is of the story of Jacob’s favourite son, Joseph. Betrayed and sold into slavery by his brothers, he meets and overcomes all adversity to become the Prime Minister of Egypt, second only to the Pharoah.

This is one of the better Bible story dramatizations ever adapted to the silver screen which complement John Huston’s 1966 monumental “The Bible … In the Beginning” very well. The acting is much better than any typical Biblical movie. The characters speak and act like real people, not cardboard cutouts. The writing tells the stories faithfully, without unnecessary additions, yet in a refreshing way that even after over three decades is enjoyable to watch. All in all, a Bible Movie worth watching by every christian.

1 Star Joseph & Jacob DVD
I have a problem playing this. It is asking for a pin number. I am from the Philippines. Cany you help me go about this asap pls? Thanks.

Ben Santiago

2 Stars Not so Good
This wasn’t really worth the money. The sets were basic and the makeup on Potipher’s wife was laughable—Joseph wouldn’t have wanted her. The video of Joseph starring Ben Kingsley was far better and you could skip Jacob altogether.

Red HOT Touch Erotic Touch For Sexual Positions

April 28, 2009 by Dating Tips · Leave a Comment

Red HOT Touch Erotic Touch For Sexual Positions

There is simply nothing else like Red Hot Touch that exists anywhere. It is instructional, erotic, utterly beautiful… and, like the title says: HOT. I’ve come full-circle on adult entertainment. I’ve defended it, enjoyed it, and even thought it was cool for a minute there… and now, while I am certainly opposed to censorship, I also see that it can be quite exploitive, demeaning, and tasteless, and that it probably damages a lot of loving relationships and almost certainly damages a lot of teenage boys and their ability to have successful intimate relationships with real women. On the other side there are a variety of real people instructional videos out there that are tasteful and that I applaud on every level… but all too often they take erotic element out completely. The almost go out of their way to remove the fantasy element that, realistically, is so much a part of great sex. In other words, they take out the hot. And, of course, there is the world of erotic art which has descended so far down the fetish avenue, or into the wildly surreal that the word erotic is misplaced. Just because there are naked bodies or sex happening does not fill the definition of erotic for me. Erotic should be just that: A turn on. Erotic should be hot. The beautiful Jaiya and Red Hot Touch somehow manages to fulfill the aspiration of all of these mediums and create something radically better than any of them. It is powerfully erotic and explicit without being raunchy. It is instructional… but still gorgeous to look at and completely sumptuous. It is art… but does not fall so deeply into pretension that it loses that powerful undercurrent of erotic. In short, Red Hot Touch is the best erotic video series ever made. It sets a new standard. And I hope that others try to match it. –Alex Allman, author of Revolutionary Sex: Hot to Give a Woman The Mind Blowing Experience She’s Always Dreamed Of

Amys O

April 28, 2009 by Dating Tips · Leave a Comment

Amys O

Writer-director-actress Julie Davis is a mix of Bonnie Hunt and Jennifer Aniston. In her 2002 comedy Amy’s O (also called Amy’s Orgasm), Davis plays Amy Mandell, the bestselling self-help author of Why Love Doesn’t Work, which is full of her theories on the fundamentally unstable nature of relationships–only she herself hasn’t been in one in years. But when she’s interviewed by an arrogant radio shock jock named Matthew Starr (Nick Chinlund), sparks fly, and Amy suddenly has to examine her theories in the real world. The title of Amy’s O suggests a sex-centered story; in fact, what separates this movie from most romantic comedies is that it explores not only falling in love, but the hurdles of sustaining a relationship after the romance has peaked. The movie skirts sitcom territory, but has enough heart to give it merit. –Bret Fetzer

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Cute
Written & directed by Julie Davis, who stars as the title character- 29 year old best-selling Los Angeleno self-help author & celibate Amy Mandell who advises woman do not need men to be successful. There is also lesbianism at play, in the form of Amy’s lecherous publicist Janet (Caroline Aaron- a Woody Allen veteran) who seeks to control & prey upon Amy’s emotional anomy with thinly-veiled barbs about her looks. Amy is a typical Ivy League yenta who does not follow her own advice. Inside, she desperately wants love, but falls for jerks. The latest is a Howard Stern wannabe named Matthew Starr (Nick Chinlund). Amy does his radio show & falls for him, despite their banal pattering battle of the sexes. Yet, 1 can tell that they hit it off right away. He seems to be not as bad as he seems, but the set up veers away from triteness because we soon find out that while he’s not the pig he plays he has deeper issues that will kibosh any relationship. & Amy is not the basket case we think, & have seen a 100 times before. Her problem is more profound: she actually is a well-adjusted person.

This is shown in some funny scenes where the Jewish Amy seeks free counseling by going to confession with a priest (Jeff Cesario) who slowly falls in love with her despite his exasperation…. Here is the film’s only real failing- that it copped out with what seems like an appeal for commercial over artistic success. Matthew & Amy’s relationship will never last.

4 Stars Conflicted O
Very, Very ,Very Funny look at the conflicts so many so called liberated women face. Well worth buying and watching several times.

4 Stars Fun Movie
This movie is just great fun. Not for children, a bit risque, but truly fun to watch. I love the lead character - the things she goes through and especially the irony of the counseling she seeks.

5 Stars Viva La Differance!
This was not the type of movie that I thought I would enjoy. In the beginning scene, when I saw women in line celebrating the main character’s work with “Dump Him Now” t-shirts, I was tempted to hit “stop.” Yet, there is a wonderful humaneness about this film that makes me warmly recommend it. Specifically, the main character, Amy, has written one of those “oh-so-trendy” books for women suggesting that “you-don’t-need-him/you’re-good-as-you-are-girl.” In the midst of her independence tour, she finds out that much of what she thought about sexual relations is totally incorrect.

For those who feel uneasy about the DVD cover and its description, let me clearly state that it is a fair movie and definitely not a feminist one. Even the title of her book is tongue in cheek, “Why Love Doesn’t Work” is as about as much a caricature as it gets. There are numerous politically incorrect elements in the film such as her fantasizing about getting raped, and when her publicist says that her book will reach all the women in need of self-help in America, “which is basically every woman in America.” The publicist also calls the organizers of a million mom march, “a bunch of bleeding heart c–t feminists.” Amy also informs us “the truth is, women hate each other.”

There’s nothing self-righteous about this movie. Every individual has flaws regardless of their genitalia, and nowadays, in the face of such widespread misandry in the entertainment industry, men must take notice and be relieved by what we have here. As a character, Amy is vulnerable, likable, and legitimate. She is also smart and able to question the dogma she was raised with, while possessing the skills necessary to discover what life’s really about. She’s someone that everybody can relate to at some level. The main male character, Matthew Star, has some unbelievable lines, and he’s isn’t inferior in any way. There’s something about him that makes you giggle and relate whenever he’s onscreen. Star’s just a good guy and there’s nothing metrosexual about him.

There is a great deal of believability in the film such as when Amy trots out the tired and often heard argument that “women who achieve have more to bring into a relationship,” but achievement has absolutely nothing to do with a man’s attraction to a woman. It’s silly and based on fantasy instead of reality. I have to say that this movie stands athwart the social construction of gender and validates the view of innate biological differences between the sexes. Even if it were not so fun, humorous, and entertaining, that would be reason enough to recommend it without reservation.

4 Stars GOOD MOVIE
This little film kicks the [...] of the over budgeted Hollywood stuff. (I hope to do the same with my comedies, if I can get some money.) It’s no way as good as the classic Woody Allen. The word to describe this movie is INTERESTING, and the price is right. Very nice commentary track. Get it!

Deadly Advice

Deadly Advice

Studio: Tango Entertainment Inc Release Date: 05/30/2006 Run time: 97 minutes Rating: Pg13

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Rubbish!
Yet another extremely mediocre attempt at film making. Both Imelda Staunton and Jane Horricks should have run for the hills when they were presented this appalling, unbelievable script. A very predictable waste of time. If you want to see Jane Horricks do something impressive buy “Little Voice”

5 Stars A quirky murder-comedy in the best English tradition
In classically understated English style, Direcotr Mandie Fletcher brings out one of those quirky, intensely black and morbidly funny films that delight audiences. In DEADLY ADVICE, Jane Horrocks is one of two lower middle class sisters busy having their lives spoiled by a harridan of a mother.

What to do? Hmm, get advice from the ghost of the small town’s most notorious murderer and bump the old bat off, of course! Ah, but such complications from the accomplices, possible witnesses and an eminently old and dull finacee (understated with brilliance by Johnathan Pryce).

Fortunetly, there are ghosts of some other notorious killers around to give yet more deadly advice.

Can Jack the Ripper keep the murderous but somehow likeable Jane out of the clink? You’ll just have to buy this and watch it to find out. You’ll probably die laughing if Jane’s ghosts don’t help her knock you off, too!

5 Stars Hilarious, very black comedy
Jane Horrocks (Bubble, from Ab Fab) stars as the most unlikely killer. She is the daughter of a very domineering mother, who gets very expert advice in removing undesireables from some of history’s greatest murderers and serial killers, including Jack the Ripper, a very bland little man who “was the only one who never got caught”. Her mother is the first to go, followed quickly by her sister and the erotic dancer boyfriend. Jonathan Price also stars, as Horrock’s devoted fiancee.

4 Stars black humor
This is a funny, quirky, black little movie. Jane H. is wonderful. She is sweet, innocent and evil at the same time. If you like dark humor this is a real find.

Dating Tips for High School Students in the 1950s Beginning to Date DVD 1953

Dating Tips for High School Students in the 1950s Beginning to Date DVD 1953

When the Lincoln Junior High Teen Club decides to sponsor a dance, George, an insecure youngster, must take the plunge into the world of dating. Fortunately, he and his group of buddies all manage to find dates to the Winter Frolic! Thus begins a classic 1950s social etiquette film on dating. The group of kids in this movie represents the varied emotional and physical development that exists in George’s age group. This film presents a somewhat realistic view of the limited nature of social interaction between young teens, but also includes some unintentionally funny moments (like how Georges date is a full foot taller than him). Studs Terkel even makes a cameo as a helpful swimming teacher. On the whole, Beginning to Date provides a healthy dose of retro culture, fun, and goofiness from a socially structured era in American history.
